%Descr: Issue 10 May '93
Througout my travels I've found that people travel for
different reasons. Be it for theater, museums, adventure,
the people, or food. This newsletter is for people that
travel for food. Food history, travel tips, and recipes.
Bob spent a few weeks in Washington, DC and gives us some great tips on food
shops and reaturants in the DC/MD area. Pick up this issue if you're
planning a trip there in the near future. Thanks Bob for changing the
typeface. It's much easier to read now.

%Title: CELEBRATOR: Beer News, "We Put the Pub in Publication," BrewsPaper
%Descr: Volume 6 Issue 2 May '93
A great publication, recomended to any aficianado of beer,
especially those living in Northern California, like myself.
Lots of news about new pubs and beers. Lots of ads for
brewpubs in California. Chock full of beer gosip and beer
         resources.
Stoddard's opens in Sunnyvale, the cool Wynkoop pub in Denver opened a huge
pool room, and beer news of San Diego.
A must read for CA home brewers.

%Title: CERES ORGANICS: Alternative Food & Agriculture News Issue 7 Winter
%Descr: '92
News and resources about natural food and co-operative
living for the residents of Wisconsin and Minnesota. Mostly
reprints and newsclips but it's bulky with information. It's
good to see alternative living going on in places you'd
never think. I really like the list of food, farm, and land
         co-ops.
There's an article about hemp politics and a photo essay about Axel
Erlandson and his living trees that he's turned into sculptures near Santa
Cruz.

%Title: EAT IT RAW: The Live Food Society Zine Volume 1 Issue 4 1993
%Descr: Years back when I first became a vegetarian there were meat
eaters and vegetarians. Then came vegans and lacto-ovo.
Now there's a myriad of preferences including raw/live
foodist. One day I'd like to try a raw food diet but until
then I'll just keep up by reading literature like this.
This newsletter lets us keep up ideas about raw food eating
including health benefits, society events, nutritional
         advice, and yummy recipes.
This issue has the philosophy behind the Live Food Society; transmutation,
ascension and living foods; a calendar of monthly meetings; and the benefits
of wheatgrass.

%Title: HEALTH NEWS: Reliable Heath Information For Everyone Volume 10 Issue
%Descr: 2 April '92
Useful and informative newsletter from a very established
medical source. Filled with practical tips including
specific products recommendations and directions with a
"healthy" streak of skepticism. Professional advice on
things like winter itch, nutrition, sports, mercury
fillings, and breast cancer. The only drawback is its
slight orientation toward Canadian medicine but a newsletter
such as this would never come from an American university.
In this issue they cover stroke prevention with detailed explanations of
what strokes are, theories about left handedness, and the ozone-melanoma
connection.

Hall, a couple of long-time activists who've been around long enough to have
29 great grandchildren. Strangely enough pastor Gene has been spreading some
racist mesages as of late.

"the circumcision question." I really don't have a firm

%Title: PILLS-A-GO-GO: Journal of Pills Issue 15 Spring '93
%Descr: One of the most interesting, humorous, and uniquely
informative newsletter I've seen in a while. A newsletter
entirely devoted to pills. Not health, not nutrition, nor
fitness, just pills. News and updates on the medical
community including pill-outing, smart pills, effective
pills, ineffective pills, new pills, old pills, oh yeah, and
         medical research.
Getting off on Dextromethorphan Hydrobromide (DM) commonly found in
non-narcotic cough remidies is extensively covered in this issue. Chet gave
us a long account of the drugs (side)effects. Another useful article is on
separating Canadian AC&C tablets.
I love this thing, informative too.

%Title: SPECTRUM: The Wholistic News Magazine Issue 30 June '93

around the world. Most of the bits are excerpts from
mainstream sources but condensed for quick reading. Very
informative and readable. A good source for keeping up with
the news on food, health, healing, vitamins, environment,
         medicine, safety, and human rights.

%Title: STREET VOICE: An Outreach Tool for Education and Survival Issue 26
%Descr: April '93
A short newsletter devoted to the homeless/IV-drug users
community in Baltimore. A very intrigeing newsletter with
         resources, survival tips, communicable diseases,
interviews, and personal essays. Strong focus on AIDS and
         how to avoid catching it.
This issue covers the finer points of hustling, the lack of drug treatment
centers, and a Langston Hughes poem. February had reports on some scary news
that cleaning needles with bleach doesn't give 100% protection against HIV.
It's actually closer to 15% protection. #24 has some advice on protecting
your teeth for people on methadone maintainence.

%Title: THE URBAN HERBALIST: A Magazine for Herbal Healing, Self-Help
%Descr: Healthcare, and Sexual Adventure Issue 7 Apr. 1993
I wish I'd known about the Urban Herbalist when I was
seeking natural remedies for the evils caused by
birth-control pills. It's a great source of information
about natural health care for women. Besides the articles
there are several pages of nationwide resources such as
herbal mail order, health networks, bookstores & libraries,
zines & newsletters, classes, conferences and more.
It's the end of the 20th century...Do you know where your cervix is? This
issue is devoted to contraception & other reproductive issues. There's
herbal contraception with wild carrot seeds, the myth of PMS, fertility and
natural rhythm awareness, and menopause.

%Title: THE VIVA VINE: The Newsletter of the Viva Vegie Society Volume 2
%Descr: Issue 1 Feb. '93
The offical newsletter of Pamela's VivaVegie socitey.
Pamela stands around street fairs passing out copies of her
         well-researched document "101 Reasons Why I'm a Vegitarian."
It a great document perfect for bringing along when you're
visiting your parents and they think you're crazy for not
wanting to eat steak three times a day.
Pam wrote about Beyond Beef's "Adopt-A-McDonald's" campaign, the repulsive
truth about the American pultry industry (why people regularly eat somthing
that commonly recognized as being poisned with salmonella is beyond me),
letters from readers, and events.

%Title: WHEATSVILLE BREEZE: A Wheatsville Food Co-op Publication March '93
%Descr: A newsletter for an Austin-based food co-op that covers news
and gossip about the people involved. Very friendly but
mostly of interest to those in Austin or thoes involved in
other food co-op around the country.
A report on Norway's whale hunting. Why people are so fixated on "saving"
whales and dolphins, while they go on killing cows, pigs, and sheep is
beyond me.

%Title: WINE TRADER: Provocative Wine Editorial, Award-Winning Wines,
%Descr: Classifieds Volume 14 Issue 2
A mass-market wine magazine that retains a fiesty
down-to-earth spirit. Lots of major wine advertising but
the editorial is very agressive and non-conforming. The
editorials seem to be getting angrier every time but they
picked out a good target: the ATF, the same people that went
into Waco, Texas to murder a group of inocent people.
Last issue included rants about the new "sin" tax, the ATF forbiding
truthful nutritional information on beer labels, the new Surgeon General,
and the health benefits of wine.  This time there's letting wine breathe;
more grumpy editorials; wine's health benefits; book reviews; and Bandon
cheeses (great with wine). Lots of ads for helpful wine tools & products.
Unfortunately it's still too "upper" for my wine styling. Anything around
$6.00 a bottle that tastes good OK by me.
