The National Park Service Wants You! Where we are now: Between May 15 and June 2, the Golden Gate National Recreation Area Advisory Commission will hold hearings at various locations in the Bay Area to receive public comment on the Presidio Planning Guidelines, the overall plan-ning process, and issues and concerns that need to be addressed in planning the Presidio's future as a national park. Where we are going: In June, our Presidio Planning Team will respond to public comments by finalizing the planning process and by beginning to collect and analyze the information necessary to address the identified issues. Later this summer, we will share this information with you and ask you to help us envision a future for the lands and buildings at the Presidio. Planning-oriented tours of the Presidio will be held throughout this phase. We will hold a series of workshops and meetings at which we will ask the question: "What is your concept of the future for the Presidio?" We will also work directly with any interested group in exploring ideas. These RvisionS sessions will continue into the fall. The next step in the planning process will involve the synthesis of information and the combination of different visions into the best Ralternative conceptsS for the Presidio. This phase will involve more public meetings and workshops, and additional site tours. An Alternatives Document will be distrib-uted to the public by the National Park Service in the spring of 1991. Based on public comments received on the alternatives, a Draft Plan and Environmental Impact Statement for the Presidio will be prepared and presented for your review in the winter of 1991-1992. The draft plan will describe the alternatives considered for future use and development of the Presidio, including the alternative preferred by the National Park Service. The environmental impact statement will analyze the impacts of all the options. Finally, in the fall of 1992, a Final Plan and Environmental Impact Statement for the Presidio will be presented to the public. SEE ALSO: Invitation to Participate ****
