The Senate Banking Cmte. holds a nomination hearing for Asst. U.S. Atty. Neil Barofsky to Special Inspector General of the Troubled Assets Relief Program (TARP). If confirmed, Barofsky will work to protect funds within the program against fraud or abuse.

Earlier, a Senate Judiciary Cmte. hearing examined how the $700 billion intervention funds can be used to assist homeowners avoid foreclosure.
